Local Authority - Social care contract dispute

Council in dispute with supplier of care services, has attempted to terminate contract, and is about to commence proceedings.

With CfJ

Case referred to CFJ. Through CFJ parties agree within two months for renewal of contract on terms acceptable to all parties. Council achieves a saving on contract price of over a million pounds. Contractor happy to secure renewal. Care clients reassured they will not be transferred to unfamiliar service provider. Relationships restored. Cost of referral less than £2,000 per party.

In Court

A court case could well have continued for up to several years with an unknown outcome. Council could have been tied into a contract they could not afford. The relationship with contractor would have broken down with potentially serious consequences for the care of the clients. Council would have incurred legal costs of potentially several hundred thousand pounds with a similar loss of staff time thrown away.
